Synthesis of Inorganic Membranes and Sorbents

Inorganic membranes or sorbents without pores or with pores of sizes ranging from a few angstroms to a few ten nonometers can find many applications in various areas. Our research is focused on synthesis and characterization of various types of inorganic membranes or sorbents with tailor-designed structure by the liquid and vapor methods.

Novel Separation and Reaction Processes

Research in this area emphasizes development of new separation and chemical reaction processes applying inorganic membranes and sorbents for gas separation (e.g., oxygen/nitrogen, hydrogen/carbon oxides, hydrocarbon mixtures, flue gas) and high temperature catalytic reactions (e.g., partial oxidation of methane, hydrocarbon dehydrogenation, xylene isomerization, polymerization).

Flexible Biological Films Exploiting Selective Active Transport

The research is this area is to focus on producing inorganic supported synthetic flexible films or membranes containing biological transport proteins that can utilize energy for the selective uptake, concentration and release of ions and molecules in an organized manner.
